Damien sat down on the far end of the Great Hall, his mouth still a little bloody from the centaur he just drank from. He licks his mouth clean. Then he grabs a glass of pumpkin juice and turns it into wine using a spell. He downs it to get rid of the aftertaste of the blood. This will be an interesting year, he thought to himself as he watched some of the other students come in.

Kara felt particularly uncomfortable for some reason as she headed to the Great Hall for lunch. Maybe it was because the only students there were a few years older than her since she'd come in early, ranging from years five through seven. And they were also from a different house - Gryffindors, Ravenclaws, and Slytherins. Not a single Hufflepuff in sight.
She swallowed loudly to herself before marching inside with her head held up high. She could care less if people wanted to pick on her, especially a Slytherin. It wasn't like she was totally helpless. Kara's wand was stuck in her robe pocket, and she knew a few handful of spells. She was perfectly fine. With that thought in her head the girl took a seat at her table, used to the loneliness already. It was the life she'd lived through after all.
There were plates of potatoes and carrots, pumpkin juice, all sorts of delicious meals waiting for her. And Kara was too hungry to care about the stares coming her way, especially from the Slytherin table. She shrugged, smirking almost to herself at the idiotic looks on their faces. Hufflepuffs had always been the subject of teasing though most still stood up for themselves. However Gryffindors were still Slytherin's worst enemy...
Kara looked up abruptly, all house rivalry information forgotten. She was watching the Slytherin boy in front of her carefully. He was holding a glass full of wine, drinking it in a few gulps. What the... Kara thought, alarmed Wine? It was obvious that he'd used a transfiguration spell, but why wine? Butterbeer was so much more appetizing. "Hey," she said, frowning and nodded to the now empty glass in his hand. "Why....?" Kara trailed off, gesturing toward it, hoping that he'd finish his sentence for her or something. [/blockquote]

Damien watched the girl as she came over to him. He set down his glass and used a refilling charm on it and it magically refilled with wine. She heard her say "why" and he continued "am I drinking wine instead of something more indulgent like butterbeer?" Marcus looked at her for a sec before answering. "The reason would be that butterbeer is a little too heavy for my stomach after I've had my fill of centaur blood" Marcus continues "and because I enjoy the sophisticated taste of wine."

Kara blinked several times at the boy's answer. Did he just say...centaur blood? What did that mean anyway? She hesitated for a moment, studying the Slytherin curiously. The boy looked about fifteen, so he was probably in his fifth year. His long, dark hair fell almost to his shoulders, and his pale skin gave him an interesting appearance. Almost like...what? Kara tried to grasp that word; vampire. Yep, there was no doubt about it, though the Slytherin was obviously not a full-fledged vampire, just half. Which was good, she guessed, for her anyway.
He had refilled the glass by now with more wine but hadn't touched it yet as Kara continued to study him. Well he didn't look that bad, and she wasn't afraid of him. Should she be afraid? Kara wasn't sure how to reply to that inner question, maybe because she hadn't really talked to the Slytherin yet. She just couldn't stereotype people...it was so typical of others to do that.
"The sophisticated taste of wine?" The Hufflepuff asked casually with a grin. "Is wine good for taking the taste of centaur blood away?" She kept her tone friendly easily because she was just curious after all. "That's interesting..." Kara took a sip of her pumpkin juice. "But I prefer this," she motioned to her drink, "then that." Damien flashed a smile back to her. She is a bit clever this one, no wonder she is a Hufflepuff. Usually he doesn't bother with people from other houses but today he will make an exception. "It helps" Damien says to her "and it isn't for everyone, mon ami". "So are you gonna tell me your name? Mines Damien, Damien Dracul" Marcus says.

Kara laughed in spite of herself. "Sure, why not? My name is Karina Youngblood, but everyone calls me Kara." She paused, rolling her eyes as she forked some potatoes and beef inside her mouth, chewed, and swallowed. "It's a bit of a mouthfull - Karina I mean - if you ask me." Her fork continued to stab at some carrot sticks, though this time less hungrily and more like she was picking at her food. "So Damien, are you a Quidditch player?" He looked like the type, athletic and all that, though Kara had no idea what vampires liked - half-vampires that is. Then again, barely any wizard or witch she'd come across hated Quidditch, so Kara had supposed that it would be a good conversation starter or something. [/blockquote]

"Karina, thats a nice name" Damien says to her flashing a smile. He waited for a sec and just looked at her. She looks pretty good by he can't say that to her, so he just continues the conversation that they were having. "Ya, I'm a quidditch player. I play as seeker for the Slytherin team. How bout you, mon ami?" Damien says to her.

Kara chuckled. "Well thanks, I guess. My parents weren't expecting a girl though, but I like the name too." She shrugged as if that didn't bother her and gulped some more pumpkin juice down. "Ya, I'm a quidditch player. I play as seeker for the Slytherin team." The Hufflepuff smirked as Damien said that. "Really? Then it looks like we'll meet each other on the field. Try-outs haven't started for us yet, but I'm definitely going to get the Keeper position." She popped a carrot in her mouth. "Of course Hufflepuff would win against Slytherin, but no hard feelings, right?" Kara smiled, just to let Damien know that she didn't really mean it, that she was just joking around. However some part of her still felt the desire to win the house cup, to beat all of the houses. [/blockquote]

And so it begins.. [/center] Shin pushed open the doors to the castle as he put his right foot forward. The first thought that entered his mind was.. Am I ready for this?.. Yes. Shin stepped forward, letting the doors swing shut behind him. He began to walk down the hall towards the Raven claw table. "It's been a while.." he whispered to himself as he made his way towards unfamiliar faces.
Shin looked around as he strode, watching the others chat. There were still a lot of empty spaces, so he definitely wasn't late. He let out a small sigh of relief, being late on his first day was not on his agenda. As he made his way to his table, he nodded at a few 7th years; those people used to be his classmate but he was now a year behind.
Shin took a seat by himself. Picking up a glass of pumpkin juice, he begins to spin the liquid inside with magic idly. Realizing what he was doing, he abruptly stopped and took a sip before putting the glass back down. He then laid back in his seat and relaxed. "This is going to be a long year," he said with a sigh.

A small drop of pumpkin juice trickled from the side of her goblet, sliding down until it landed on a carrot stick. Kara stared at it for a moment, marveling on the idea of what pumpkin carrots would taste like. She let out a deep breath and decided to take the risk, sticking the stick inside her mouth. Of course there was really no difference since it was a tiny drop of juice, besides the fact that the simple bite was sweeter than what she was used to. But whatever..no pumpkin side-effects at all.
Her eyes wandered around the great hall as she waited for a reply from Damien, maybe even some kind of offensive remark about what she had said. Maybe, but that was unlikely. As she watched some of the other students file in, her attention was only on one of them. A 7th year..maybe 6th year Ravenclaw arriving at his table alone. He held himself up proudly, something that Kara immediately admired. But that was before she saw his face - his whole entire face. It was slightly familiar, but Kara knew him for who he was by classification. Ravenclaw's Seeker. And captain.
It was only natural for her to be seeking out her opponents. Kara had always been very competitive, and of course a sore loser. Her eyes narrowed for a moment as she watched him, finally remembering his name at the last minute. Shin. Shin...something. Last names weren't her forte. In fact she might've forgotten Damien's already. [/blockquote]

OOC: mind if i join?
Annabella was sitting at the very end of the Hufflepuff table. She was staring at the enchanted ceiling; admiring it. She sighed as she looked away toward a girl who was obviously a Hufflepuff, and a boy who she appeared to be talking to. She then looked around at the Ravenclaw table. She saw a boy sitting by himself. He looked like he didn't seem to care, he looked very confident as far as Annabella could tell. But he looked a bit lonely. Of course, being Annabella she strode over to him to start up a conversation. She smiled and tapped him gently on the shoulder. "Hello, i'm Annabella."

Shin had noticed the Hufflepuff girl staring at him. She seemed young to him, around her 3rd year, but she was definitely staring at him. He began to wonder if she was checking him out but quickly discarded the thought. I'm too old for her, he thought to himself. Shin held her gaze for a few moment, realizing that she was scoping him out because of his position on the quidditch team. He let out a small chuckle as he realized this year was going to be busy.. he was the captain of the Ravenclaw quidditch team after all.
Suddenly, Shin felt a slight tap on his shoulder. He heard someone speak to him from behind, barely catching her name. Anabella... Shin quickly turned around, noticing the girl behind him. "Oh," he said as he stood up, "Hi, I'm Shin." Shin slid out a chair next to him for her. Looking into her eyes, he asked in a warm voice, "Care to sit?"
As he waited for her reply, Shin began to study her. She looked a bit older than the girl from before, but there was definitely an athletic air about her. Suddenly, a thought raced into his mind. Oh no.. Shin thought to himself, don't tell me she's scoping me out for quidditch too..

Annabella stood, smiling, as he introduced himself as "Shin." Now that she was up close, and looking at his face. She saw that he was very handsome, he's awfully cute she thought to herself. But she then realized that he must of been a sixth or seventh year, a bit too old for her. He offered her to sit down. Annabella took a seat beside him. Scooting closer than nessacary. She stared into his eyes, and she couldn't stop.

Shin noticed that the girl was staring at him. Feeling a bit uneasy, Shin sat down after she did. Uh. was the only thought in Shin's mind when he noticed how close Annabella was sitting next to him. Shin calmed himself down, but one thought wouldn't stop bothering him.. I thought I was the flirt.. when did things change?
Shin scratched the thought from his head when he looked at her again. He knew she was younger than him just by looking at her. The difference had to be about two or three years. He thought she was a little cute, but definitely too young for him. Shin began to think the silence was a bit unnerving and suddenly he felt like creating some small talk to break the ice.
"Soo..," Shin started as he began to think about a topic that would start the conversation. "How do you like Hogwarts so far?" Shin asked, genuinely interested. He hadn't been here for an entire year and he was curious to know if this was the same great school that he had left.Smooth.. Shin thought to himself sarcastically, that's definitely the best way to play it cool.

Annabella noticed that he looked a bit uneasy, this had hurt her feelings. i've just met him, and i'm already scaring him she thought, as she frowned. She moved a little farther away from him. She stared at the ground, not saying anything, the silence was painful. "Soo..," Shin began to say. She looked up at him. "How do you like Hogwarts so far?" He obviously couldn't think of anything else to say. He doesn't want to talk to me. He's just being nice. She hesitated before answering, actually thinking about the question. What did she think of Hogwarts? I guess she thought it was nice. She loved the fact that there was a whole entire school dedicated to the magical arts. "I really like it, but i do get homesick easily..." She sighed as she looked at him with dreamy eyes, but immediatly stopped, knowing that she was freaking him out.
