I guess you are new to Role Playing? If so, then these simple examples, tips, and guidelines should open your eyes to everything and make Role Playing much more easier for you.
[x] First off: Role Playing is like writing a section of a story in third person. In other words, you will be typing/talking in "He, She, Him, Her, Jim, Bob" form. NO "i"
[x] Second: Once you have posted a section in a thread on whatever you're talking about, you have to wait for the other member/character to reply. You cannot control them. That will be god-moding, and there is none of that here.
[x] Third: Please try to have correct spelling and grammar. No chat talk! Also Role Play fair, so if you're dueling by any chance, please do not make yourself perfect by dodging or deflecting all of the spells and attacks.
[x] Fourth: Please note that if you're RPing, you have to type that way too. In other words, you cannot assume that you already know a character you have never met before. An example would be: Your character is talking to a complete stranger, but you know that stranger's name. Does that even make sense?
[x] Fifth: Like I've said before: NO ONE-LINERS OR SHORT POSTS! This is a literate Role Play site. It should be at least a paragraph long, or about 6 sentences. The more you type, the better you will be in RPing.
[x] Sixth: People can request characters to join their RP thread. If you're name isn't in their thread title, or if it doesn't say open after the list of names, you shouldn't RP there. If there is the word "open" after the RP topic, or nothing there at all, then we would assume that everyone is invited to Role Play there.
[x] Seventh and Last: DO NOT RP UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN SORTED INTO HOUSE, OR UNTIL YOU HAVE CREATED A CHARACTER. Seriously people, that is just ignorant and messy, and more problems for the Staff and members.
If you are still a little fuzzy, here are some examples. Please note that no posts should be like this...NEVER have the same LENGTH as these examples. Not this short. These are only examples, so don't follow my ideas.
Person 1: Larry walked into the common room, took a seat in his favorite armchair, and got out his books and parchment. Setting them on his lap, Larry then began to write his essay.
Person 2: Kelly followed Larry and smiled at him. She also set her stuff down and grabbed her Charms textbook, flipping through it thoughtfully.
Person 1: Larry smiled as Kelly walked in and took a seat beside him. "Hey!" He said, still grinning as he dipped his quill in the ink bottle and began to write his essay.
Person 2: "What's up?" Kelly asked, giving Larry the same grin. "Listen, are you going to try-out for Quidditch, because I dunno if I should..." She paused as she also started on her Charms essay.
Person 3; Jack yawned, but he still managed to sit down on an armchair. He watched curiously as Larry and Kelly talked before getting up again and walked toward them. "Hey there." Jack said. "I couldn't help but overhear on your talk on Quidditch try-outs..." etc. etc. etc.
I hope that clears things up for you. If you have anymore suggestions on the tips and guidelines, please PM me, Kat, Kimberly, or Damien. Any questions, please do the same.
