Character History
Shin grew up arrogant, over-confident, and spoiled. His older brother watched over him, his mother never stopped trying to give him whatever he wanted, and his father never stopped trying to make him the best. It wasn't that they were terrible parents, they just cared too much to notice what he was turning into. Even with his terrible attitude, Shin still loved and respected them more than anything else in the world.. except magic.
Shin was born with the gift of magic, and it flowed free and strong through his veins. His father was an experienced and powerful auror, his mother heir to a long and powerful line of purebloods. Shin was a pureblood himself. The signs of his magic beginning to grow were apparent even before he became a year old. His strength in magic could only go one way - up.
Shin loved sports of all kinds, whether they included the use of magic or not. He was a natural when it came to flying on a broom and just as good when it came to sports like basketball, football, and soccer. His body was naturally athletic, and so sports were easy for him.
His parents had two homes; one house was near muggles and the other was surrounded by houses owned by those with magic. When Shin was with his muggle friends, he would practice and play sports with them. He soon taught those sports to his little wizard friends and continued playing those sports with all his friends.
Shin was growing fine in athletics, but he was also great with his studies. Even before he was enrolled in Hogwarts, his father would teach him about magic of all kinds. His brother would show him interesting spells he learned, and his mother would tell him stories about magical creatures that she had seen in her past.
Shin was enrolled into Hogwarts at the age of 11. He was your standard clueless first year, but his confidence only made him push his limits further. He excelled in his classes during the school year, and was taught even more by his family during the summer. They considered him there little prodigy. His father even began to teach Shin the things he would later become best at: Legilimency and Occlumency.
Shin continued onto his second year. He excelled in his studies once more, and began to read up and try to learn spells on his own. In his second year he got into trouble once because of his arrogant attitude, but when he returned home his parents didn't care. His brother began to teach him the spells he wanted to know, and his father continued his legilimency and occlumency lessons.
Shin also began practicing quidditch with his friends, aspiring to join his house team one day. Shin's dad took him to as many quidditch games as he could. Shin was the happiest he could be, and things only got better for him.
Shin continued onto his third year, only doing better in his studies. He didn't want to try out for the quidditch team yet because he wanted to make sure he was at the top of his game when he decided to join.
That summer, Shin showed the first apparent signs of him being a metamorphagas like his father. He was angry at not being able to score on his friend, and his hair began to turn fiery red. When he calmed down, his hair returned to normal. After telling his dad, his father registered him with the Ministry as a metamorphagas. Shin now had one more thing to be proud of. Unfortunately, near the end of the summer, his father suddenly got a lead on the Death Eaters he was looking for and had to go hunt them down. Markus, Shin's elder brother (27 at the time), was also an auror and went with his father to hunt down the Death Eaters.
Shin was sad, but continued to excel in his fourth year at Hogwarts. When he wasn't studying, Shin would practice clearing his mind and controlling his metamorphagas abilities. Shin was a natural, but still not in complete control. That summer Shin's father and brother were still busy so Shin and his mother were alone. Shin continued to practice everything he had years before, along with his new abilities. He also practiced quidditch harder than ever that summer.
In his fifth year, Shin tried out for and made the quidditch team as a chaser. He used his superior speed, grace, and skills on a broom to excel. Shin was also a team player though, and made sure to only do what was necessary to bring his team to victory. Shin finally managed to get a hang on his metamorphagas abilities that year, and his magic was as strong as ever.
Unfortunately, that was also the year Shin's world collapsed around him. A week after he returned home, Shin received a letter. Once he opened that letter, his life would never be the same. Shin's father had died in combat against the unknown death eater he was tracking, and Markus was missing - presumed dead.
Shin collapsed after reading that. In his eyes, he was powerless to help them at the one time they needed him. After they helped him so much and tried to make him the best they could, he failed. Now, they were lost to him forever. When his mother read the letter, she fell into shock. She was still alive, but Shin now had to take care of all her needs, she was now dependent on him. The doctors had no cure, she could only snap out of it on her own.
Shin's depression only deepened. He refused to hang out with his friends, stopped practicing his magic, and gave up on school. He only could think about taking care of the only person he had left, his mother. He didn't go to school that year, refusing until Hogwarts gave up on him. There was nothing they could do to convince him that he should go back to school.
Shin continued to look after his mother until one day, she spoke. She still had her senses and finally had mustered up enough energy to talk to Shin. She told him there was nothing he could do to save his father and brother. He wasn't strong enough. That's why he needed to continue his schooling and training, so he could protect those he loved. Even though he wasn't good enough, he never failed them because they didn't expect him to be able to do anything to help them anyway. What they wanted him to do was make them proud, and sitting around moping isn't going to make them proud.
Even though those words were harsh, Shin was the ring of truth to them. He couldn't have done anything before. He always believed he was the best, but he wasn't. He had a long way to go. The rest of that year and summer, Shin spent practicing everything harder than he had ever practiced before.
On his birthday, an old family friend had given him a new broom, not released yet, as a gift. He told Shin that his wife and he would take care of Artemis, Shin's mother, as long as he went to Hogwarts. According to them, they were repaying a debt they owed to his father. Shin accepted, believing they would take care of his mother.
He was 17 now, going back to Hogwarts for his sixth year.. he had missed a year and if he went back he would have to start where he left off. Shin didn't mind. He believed he was ready. He was back in shape, and he had refreshed his memory on all the spells he new before. Granted he was a bit rusty, but he only intended to get better.
He wrote to the headmaster, apologizing and requesting permission to return to Hogwarts. He received it, promising he wouldn't waste this opportunity. Shin is now returning to Hogwarts, ready for whatever stands before him.
Character Personality
Shin still has traces of his former arrogance and confidence. However, his confidence is now more restrained. He believes in his abilities and knows his limits. Shin still continued to push those limits and will never back down. He never gives up, even when it may seem futile to continue fighting. He believes there is always a way as long as your willing to try.
Shin is compassionate. He has a love for life. He gained his compassion through caring for his mother during her shock. Shin also believes strongly that people should respect their parents, however, he doesn't have respect for anyone else until they earn it.
Shin's obsession over magic has renewed, and he studies it in his free time. He's always fooling around with spells if he's now practicing quidditch, and sometimes the spells backfire. However, that doesn't stop him. Even if it's not healthy for him, Shin's obsession only fuels his progression in his abilities.
Shin's determination to excel also helps him in his athletics. He still practices quidditch daily, and likes to go for jogs when he can. He also likes to explore and check the outdoors. Shin loves his freedom and hates being bound. One result is the fact that he hates tight spaces and crowds. The other result is that he hates making promises, but when he does he won't fail to keep them.
Shin is a genuinely sincere person. He's always willing to help someone out. He created his own code of honor which he follows. He always says what he means unless he's joking around. Shin hates those who pick on the weak just because they believe they are stronger. He also hates those who waste what they have.
Shin isn't quick to anger, but his anger is explosive. When he gets angry, he'll lash out at his target. He tends to go straight to violence and forgets about all consequences in that moment. He'll keep lashing out until he's restrained or his target is bloody and beaten.
Shin can also be a comedic character. He definitely has a sense of humor. However, he knows when a situation requires a serious attitude, and will not waste humor on such circumstances. Shin can take a joke, within reason, but he also understands people who can't.
Shin has a way with words. He's a smooth talker and also a bit of a flirt. He likes to fool around with girls, but he never bothers to go very far. Shin has his limits, and respects the limits of others as well. Shin respects women, but he's also a guy and flirting is part of his nature. He won't make a girl do anything she doesn't want to, though.
Character Appearance
Shin stands at around 6 feet 4 inches, and weighs around 180 lbs. Shin has a slightly muscular figure with a slightly tan complexion. The muscles on his body are compact and taut. Shin's body is flexible and seems a bit wiry. His body is void of tattoos and scars. It is built for speed and power, mirroring his explosive nature and fighting style.
Shin has a dark brown hair with light chestnut highlights. A few locks of the front part of Shin's hair are dyed white. His hair is either worn down or spiked up and back, and the hair reaches a little past the base of his skull when fully down. He has blue eyes the color of the ocean. His eyes generally have a look of genuine interest in the world and determination towards the task before him.
Shin is extremely agile, flexible, and dexterous. His body is good at enduring attacks, and he has a lot of stamina to spend. Shin also has an extremely sharp eyesight and night vision. Unfortunately, Shin has chronic migraines which can sometimes leave him incapacitated. Also, his mental and emotional restraints keep him from being as strong as he can possibly be.
When Shin isn't in Hogwarts he doesn't wear wizard robes. Instead, Shin wears a long, sturdy trench coat of a brown color, which compliments his hair, with a white-silver border. Long iron colored chains are attached to his coat, and a similar, but smaller, chain hangs from his neck like a necklace. Under the trench coat Shin wears a shirt of a similar design and color to the coat. He also has long, brown pants with a matching pair of boots.
Shin also wears long, full-fingered gloves. The gloves, like his clothes, are made of a sturdy but light material. Shin also wears an earring in the shape of a cube on each ear. He also carries around an ornate longsword at times. It was a gift from his father before he dies, and Shin cherishes it. Shin doesn't use the sword, but his father told him it was enchanted with magic and Shin can always feel that magic pulsating from the sword.
